Mitrani Caballero participated in leading international compliance events
Our partner Mariela Ines Melhem, head of the Compliance and Crisis Management practice, represented the firm at three milestones on the international calendar: the 42nd Annual Conference on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and Global Anti-Corruption hosted by the American Conference Institute, the International White Collar Crime Symposium of the New York City Bar Association, and the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (WWCDA) Annual Gala. These gatherings were invaluable for staying current, benchmarking approaches with peers across multiple jurisdictions, and reinforcing the differentiated value we deliver to our clients.
The conferences brought together regulators, prosecutors, and practitioners to address three core themes: global anti-corruption trends, enforcement relating to terrorism and cartels, and the expanding role of AI in compliance and investigations. In anti-corruption, discussions covered emerging risk areas and cross-border cooperation, alongside policy and enforcement developments including updates to DOJ considerations under the FCPA, a heightened focus on victims, and whistleblower reward programs. The agenda also explored regional dynamics across the United States, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America. On terrorism and organized crime, panels examined the impact of cartel designations, the interaction among sanctions regimes and anti–money laundering frameworks, and the heightened compliance and investigative challenges companies face under these reinforced regimes.
Our partner’s participation was instrumental in strengthening our Compliance practice. These forums enabled us to benchmark our standards against international best practices, anticipate areas of regulatory scrutiny, and refine prevention, detection, and incident response strategies. It was particularly valuable to hear directly from enforcement authorities about how they are adapting to new challenges—including the use of data and advanced analytics—and how those expectations are being translated to the private sector.
Continuous learning and engagement with peers and authorities from different countries are pillars of our value proposition. Our partner’s presence at these conferences reaffirms our commitment to technical excellence in legal advice, aligned with global regulatory expectations and the highest standards of integrity.
Mariela Melhem also attended the WWCDA Gala, dedicated to recognizing leadership, excellence, and professional growth for women in white collar defense. Our presence at this event is aligned with the firm’s initiatives to promote diversity, inclusion, and gender equity within the legal profession, and to support the development of future leaders in the field.
