Pro Bono
Since we began working as a firm, we have firmly believed in the importance of giving back to society a part of what we receive. Therefore, we have dedicated part of our time and resources to offering free legal services to those who need it most. The Pro Bono work team is led by our partner Carlos Trogolo Elicabe, an expert in corporate law and litigation, and coordinated by Yamila Di Martino, a senior associate in the litigation area. The work of both professionals guarantees the excellence and commitment of our team in each of the initiatives in which we participate.
We have advised Fundación Cimientos, an organisation that promotes educational equity and supports the retention and graduation of secondary school students in vulnerable contexts. Our team has collaborated by providing legal advice on labour matters, especially in relation to the tutors who accompany the young scholars supported by the Foundation, as well as in union claims.
We have also collaborated with INICIA, a civil association of entrepreneurs that promotes responsible businesses. As a law firm, we provide free advice to INICIA on corporate matters specific to the civil association, as well as to its entrepreneurial members.
Another of our outstanding pro bono projects is the work with Sumando Energías, an NGO dedicated to improving emergency housing through the use of renewable energy, recycling, and design. From the firm, we have accompanied them in their process of formalisation as a company, making our corporate law experts available to them and providing legal advice at different stages of their growth.
We have also assisted Iveco Argentina S.A. by participating pro bono in a training programme designed by the company, which is part of a global programme of the Iveco Group. The programme includes training for students from neighbouring schools and includes environmental sessions, legal training on work, human rights and working conditions, and privacy protection. This initiative aims to educate young students from vulnerable institutions to provide them with a better perspective, particularly considering their future entry into their first jobs. Our firm provided legal advice to Iveco on this project and actively participated in the implementation of the training sessions and institutional activities with the Human Resources and Institutional Relations Departments.
Through the Mitrani Caballero Research Centre, the area that brings together law students working at our firm, we also promote participation in pro bono projects as a key instance for their professional training.
Pro Bono Commission of the Buenos Aires Bar Association
As of February 2025, we joined the Pro Bono Commission of the Buenos Aires Bar Association, which represents another institutional step in our commitment to the community. The Commission brings together the country’s leading firms to connect those in need of legal support with professionals who offer their time and knowledge for free. Under the premise that law is a tool for social transformation, the Pro Bono Commission of the Buenos Aires Bar Association has been providing assistance to civil society organisations and people in vulnerable situations for 24 years. Its work covers key areas such as disability and accessibility, political transparency, at-risk children, and social inclusion. Currently, this network is composed of more than 3,000 professionals from law firms, companies, bar associations, and universities from different parts of the country, who have provided assistance to more than 1,100 organisations.
The Pro Bono Commission of the Buenos Aires Bar Association is part of the Vance Center network, an international organisation that mobilises lawyers to promote access to justice, strengthen the rule of law, and protect fundamental and environmental rights. Our first pro bono case with the Pro Bono Commission of the Buenos Aires Bar Association is an environmental research project coordinated by the Vance Center, in collaboration with the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (GRI) of the London School of Economics and Political Science. GRI is a multidisciplinary centre that brings together international experts in law, economics, and finance to develop policies related to climate change and the environment. Its Climate Change Laws of the World Project (CCLW) monitors in real-time the evolution of climate laws and policies globally. This project seeks to analyse how different countries have incorporated climate considerations into their regulatory frameworks and develop policy recommendations to improve these processes.
In this context, we work hand in hand with other firms from Argentina and the region, contributing our knowledge and experience in the environmental area. By joining the Pro Bono Commission of the Buenos Aires Bar Association, we reinforce our commitment and expand our reach, as we will have the opportunity to work alongside other professionals and organisations and thus reach more people and communities. It will also allow us to benefit from the additional resources and training provided by the Commission to offer a better service, strengthening our support network by collaborating with other lawyers and entities, sharing experiences and knowledge that will enrich our work.
Environmental, Social and Governance
At Mitrani Caballero we promote the development of solidarity, community and environmental care programs and actions. To reinforce our social commitment, in 2013 we created the ESG Committee to channel the various efforts in response to the proposals and concerns of the members of the firm.
The ESG Committee encourages the active participation of all members of the Firm, creating space to carry out different projects that develop the social awareness of the participants while strengthening the bonds of our team. The projects proposed by the committee promote the protection of children in our country, promote education, and facilitate access to decent housing and food protection for people.
With the growing awareness of global warming, we also take actions for the care of the environment by promoting the reduction of energy consumption and recycling in the workplace.
Some of the charitable activities carried out by our members and family members, with the support of the firm, include house building days, food sorting activities and the setting up of vegetable gardens for schools.
