Coco Oderigo Shares the Fundación Espartanos Story with Our Team

We were honored to welcome Eduardo “Coco” Oderigo, founder of Fundación Espartanos, to our offices, where he captivated the Mitrani Caballero team with the remarkable journey behind his initiative.

Driven by a mission to transform the lives of incarcerated individuals, Fundación Espartanos introduces rugby into correctional facilities, using sport as a vehicle to instill respect, humility, teamwork, honesty, and perseverance. Beyond the playing field, the foundation offers comprehensive programs in spirituality, vocational and educational training, and social and labor reintegration.

The project began in 2009, when Coco Oderigo first visited the San Martín maximum-security prison. Confronted with an atmosphere of hopelessness, he returned with a rugby ball and began coaching fifteen inmates. Since then, Fundación Espartanos has helped reduce recidivism at participating facilities from 65 percent to just 5 percent.

During his visit, Coco candidly discussed the obstacles he has faced and how unwavering conviction has enabled him to turn an ambitious vision into a powerful tool for second chances. His message—emphasizing resilience and the determination to forge a new future—resonates deeply with us and reinforces the work we pursue through our ESG Committee as part of our continued commitment to the community.
